Antique Black & Gold Floral Silk Lace Mantilla Wedding Veil Shawl

This gorgeous piece of antique lace is a bit of fashion history, dating to no later than the 1920s, and likely much older than that. A beautiful addition to a formal gown or a fine addition to any lace collection, this piece is of heirloom quality.
The color is deep black with golden hued threads. It is formed on a delicate net ground, so fine it is just a wisp of color, allowing the sprays of golden stylized flowers to float gracefully around you. An occasional larger hole has been opened up, and bound skillfully with threads, adding another visual element to the overall look. While heaviest at the edges, these floral shapes and foliage sprigs are scattered throughout the net field.
The edge is scalloped as if to follow the shapes of the flowers, and the edges bound to match the flora, adding a bit of sheen and a soft ribbon-like flow as the edges descend down the wearer’s body.

I believe this may be a type of bobbin lace, although I am no lace expert. The flowers are formed with densely woven threads run side-by-side to fill the shape as bordered by the same threads. An amazing amount of skilled handiwork must have gone into the creation of this piece!
The piece is shown spread over a fully extended dining table, as this was the only way to show the patterning and shape as it is fully spread out. This incredible length, accompanied with the generous width, allow it to drape gracefully about the head and shoulders and be around hip length on most wearers. While it is much too fine to be used as a table covering, I have seen this type of piece used as a bed covering for display purposes….likely for people without kids and pets, though!

No holes, tears or stains. There are a few pricks and thread shifts in the net, as shown in the image above. These do not detract from the overall beauty of the piece.
It has been hand washed with care, dried flat.
